Ceilings. Placing a bed in an attic space isn't easy. The upholstered headboard here partially shields the window, yet the window acts as a concentrating element. The delicate nightstpluss are tucked under the descending roofline, plus the circulation is comfortable around both sides of the bed. Keep in mind that once the slope of a ceiling proceed beneath 60 inches, the area under the lower slope doesn't count as livable straight footage in some locales.
Be budget friendly. Aside from the fact that construction a loft is typically inexpensiver than transforming an attic, it's as well as potentially an option in buildings that are not suitable for additions due to planning restrictions, since the structure is internal. There may be issues with adding some types of windows, though probably not simply skylights – check your zoning regulations.
Go bespoke – Produced to measure is frequently the way to go when it comes to attic wardrobes. With sloping ceilings, dormer windows plus skylights limiting your options, it's often the gable end that has to be used for hanging clothes. Many people rebate the wall about their access door, but they could be missing a trick here, as it enables the bed to be placed on the opposite wall.
Up in the attic, one of the children's bedrooms has been fitted with a mezzanine, perfect for sleepovers. 'It would have been easy to put a flat ceiling across here, but we would boast missed a terrific opportunity,' explains John. 'As well as being a useful little space, it's also much more interesting from an architectural point of view plus it meant we were able to introduce a roof light to make the most of what could have been a dark space.'.
